About

Carl Philip Taylor is a UK-based playwright and screenwriter whose work explores how meaning is formed, shared and contested within systems of power, language and perception.

His writing spans stage, radio and screen. Current projects include a Shakespearean trilogy set around the political tensions of 1601, examining authorship, censorship and the public life of words; We Reap What We Sow, a five-part radio drama rooted in contemporary social realism with a speculative edge; and Gaia, a geopolitical screen drama exploring AI, influence and global decision-making under uncertainty.

Before focusing on writing, Carl’s career spanned scientific research, strategic planning and organisational development. He held roles within the Shell Group, including work in environmental microbiology, corporate planning and new ventures, before establishing an independent consultancy. Since then, he has worked across sectors as a consultant, coach and facilitator, supporting leadership, decision-making and organisational change.

This background informs his writing, which is structurally precise and dialogue-led, with a particular interest in how individuals operate within complex institutional environments. His plays are typically ensemble-driven and historically grounded, often centred on moments where language carries consequence and responsibility cannot be cleanly assigned.

Carl is interested in development opportunities, rehearsed readings and collaboration with companies and performers drawn to text-led, intellectually engaged drama.
